I finally had to use it. I live in downtown Portland, OR, so I am frequently harassed by addicts/homeless men on the street. After a man tried to get into my car with me in a parking garage one evening about a year ago, I decided I need pepper spray. Yesterday, I finally had to use it on a man who ran up to me in an agitated and threatening manner, saying he was going to murder me. It was my first time using the pepper spray (and it hasn't reached its expiration date yet).First, I will encourage women to carry the pepper spray in their hands; don't have it tucked away in a zipped pocket or something. If you do that, you probably won't be able to access it quickly enough. As for the actual product itself, I can't give it 5 stars, but it probably did keep me safe last night. And it is very easy to use. The main issue is what a weak stream it had. The man retreated to probably three feet away from me when I finally used it, and it barely hit him because the pressure was so weak. I'm not sure how painful pepper spray is supposed to be, but he wasn't "stopped in his tracks" or anything. He was still aggressive, but I think it was enough of an irritant to keep him from touching me (and based off of his words and behavior, that's what was going to happen if I hadn't had the pepper spray). In sum, I would encourage women to spend the extra money if they can for a different pepper spray with more pressure behind it. But don't take that recommendation as me saying that this product is a waste of money. If nothing else, when someone sees that you have pepper spray in your hand, they are less likely to physically touch you.
